Series are one of the most powerful features for indie authors on BookAuth. A well-organized series encourages readers to continue through your catalog, improves discoverability, and presents a professional-looking collection on your author website.

What You'll Learn

  • How to create a new series
  • How to add and remove books from a series
  • How to reorder books within a series
  • How series appear across the platform
  • Best practices for series organization

Creating a New Series

  1. Navigate to Content > Series from the sidebar
  2. Click "+ New Series" in the top-right corner
  3. Fill in the series details:
    • Series Title — the name of your series (e.g., "The Dragon Chronicles")
    • Description — a brief overview of what the series is about
    • Status — Draft (hidden) or Published (visible)
  4. Click "Create Series"

Series Management Interface

Adding Books to a Series

Once your series is created:

  1. Open the series by clicking its title in the Series list
  2. Click "+ Add Book to Series"
  3. Search for the book — a search modal appears with your complete book catalog
  4. Click the book to add it to the series
  5. The book is automatically added at the next available position

You can add both Published and Draft books to a series:

  • Published books are visible to readers in the series page
  • Draft books are hidden from readers but tracked for your planning purposes

Reordering Books

Book order within a series matters — readers expect chronological or reading-order sequence:

  1. Open the series editor
  2. Drag books using the drag handle (⋮⋮) on the left side of each book row
  3. Drop them into the desired position
  4. The order number automatically updates (Book 1, Book 2, Book 3...)
  5. Click "Save Order" to confirm

Pro Tip: If your series has a non-linear reading order (e.g., a prequel published after the main series), consider ordering by recommended reading order rather than publication date.

Removing Books from a Series

  1. Open the series editor
  2. Click the remove icon (✕) next to the book you want to remove
  3. Confirm the removal — the book itself is not deleted, just unlinked from the series
  4. Remaining books automatically re-number

Removing a book from a series:

  • Does not delete the book from your catalog
  • Does not affect the book's reviews, pricing, or availability
  • Only removes the series association

Series Best Practices

Naming Conventions

  • Use a clear, memorable series name
  • Include genre signals when possible: "The Dark Witch Saga" vs. "Untitled Series 1"
  • Keep it concise enough for thumbnail displays

Timing Your Series

  • Create the series before publishing the second book
  • Add the first book to the series retroactively
  • This way, when Book 2 launches, the series connection is immediately visible

Cross-Promotion

  • Mention the series in your book synopses: "Book 2 of The Dragon Chronicles"
  • Use newsletters to announce new series entries
  • Create ARC campaigns for later series entries to build review momentum

Searching and Filtering Series

From the Content > Series page, you can:

  • Search by title — find specific series quickly
  • Filter by status — show only Published or Draft series
  • Sort by book count — see which series have the most entries
