SYNOPSIS

In the High Sanctum of Aethelgard, memory is currency, identity is property, and human emotion is harvested to pay corporate and crown debts. The Dominion maintains absolute control through the Grand Extractor, a massive brass apparatus that drains liquid recollection into Vitreol vials, leaving debtors hollow, compliant, and calcified.

Kael Ardent, a high-ranking captain of the Bastion, is dying by inches. Every time he barters away his past to purchase provisions for his starving garrison, the Ashen Vein expands across his skin. The petrification turns soft flesh into cold granite, stripping away his boyhood, comfort, and capacity to feel.

Serenya Vale is an unregistered Memory-Keeper working in the dark arcades of the Glass Bazaars. Her fingertips are scarred with silver acid from handling illicit Vitreol to restore erased memories to desperate refugees. When an illicit restoration alerts Dominion Enforcers, Serenya is hunted into subterranean vaults.

Cornered in a collapsing aqueduct by a spectral entity born of discarded human grief, Kael and Serenya forge The Ashen Covenant, a forbidden blood-vow entangling their soul-lines. Serenya’s stored memories fuel Kael’s failing physical body, while Kael’s petrifying skin absorbs lethal psychic strikes meant for her.

As a ruthless purge sweeps the capital, they embark on a perilous journey toward the heart of the Citadel. But the covenant exacts a horrific toll: Kael’s mind is systematically scraped clean of his identity, while Serenya is drowned in the violent memories of a man who was once the Archivist Queen’s personal executioner.

Rooted in Relational Realism, this dark fantasy epic explores personal accountability, the high cost of human dignity, and the terrifying truth that saving a soul often requires severing the vines that bind it.
