One Account, Multiple Roles
Here's the powerful part: you don't need separate accounts for each role. A single BookAuth account can hold all three roles. This is common and encouraged:
- An author who also reviews books is both an Author and a Reader
- An editor who publishes their own work is both a Professional and an Author
- A book blogger who also freelance edits is a Reader and a Professional
How to Switch Roles
- Click your profile avatar in the top-right corner of any page
- Select "Switch Role" from the dropdown menu
- Choose your target role — you'll be redirected to that role's dashboard
- Your navigation, dashboard, and available features change instantly to match the selected role
Pro Tip: Each role has its own dedicated sidebar navigation. When you switch roles, the entire left sidebar updates to show only the tools relevant to that role.
How to Add a New Role
If you signed up as a Reader and now want to become an Author:
- Navigate to Settings > Profile
- Look for the "Add Role" option
- Select the new role (Author, Reader, or Professional)
- Complete any role-specific onboarding steps (e.g., Professional registration requires approval)
Role-Based Pricing
| Role | Cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Reader | Always free | No premium tiers, no restrictions |
| Author (Free) | $0/month | Unlimited books, 2 ARCs, 500 subscribers, basic website |
| Author (Pro) | $12/month | AI Assistant, 10 ARCs, 5K subscribers, custom themes |
| Author (Business) | $29/month | Custom domain, unlimited ARCs, 25K subscribers, custom CSS |
| Professional | Free to register | BookAuth earns commission on completed projects only (12-18%) |
How Roles Interact
The BookAuth ecosystem is designed so that each role supports the others:
Authors ──── publish books ────→ Readers discover & buy
Authors ──── launch ARCs ──────→ Readers apply & review
Authors ──── hire services ────→ Professionals earn income
Readers ──── write reviews ────→ Authors gain visibility
Readers ──── join clubs ───────→ Community grows
Professionals ─ deliver work ──→ Authors publish better books
This creates a virtuous cycle where every participant — whether they're creating, consuming, or supporting content — benefits from the growth of the platform.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I be an Author and a Reader at the same time?
A: Yes! In fact, most authors are also readers. You have full access to both dashboards and can switch between them freely.
Q: If I become a Professional, do I lose my Author features?
A: No. Adding a role never removes another. All your existing roles, data, books, and settings remain intact.
Q: Do I need to pay for the Reader role if I'm a paying Author?
A: No. The Reader role is always free, regardless of your Author subscription. Your Author subscription only applies to Author-specific premium features.
Q: Can I have different profiles for different roles?
A: Each role can have its own link page and certain role-specific profile fields, but your core identity (name, email, avatar) is shared across all roles under your Universal Identity.
Q: Is there a Publisher role?
A: A Publisher role for managing multiple authors under a single organization is planned for a future release. It's currently listed as "Coming Soon" on the platform.
